108 THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT The flipside of taking care of its human resources was provision by the Bank of an environment that was safe and friendly to the staff, tenants and visitors. In seeking to achieve this goal, the Bank had to take into account an increased establishment, the ageing physical infrastructure and the higher national priority accorded to health and safety during the new century. Reorganisation and space management One course of action was to re-organise the management structure of the department responsible for the physical environment.
