Between 2001 and 2016, public education on international financial developments was achieved mainly by way of a series of informative seminars, as policy-makers searched for responses to renewed pressure on small international financial centres. These sessions brought together leading domestic, regional and international experts to discuss a range of globally-significant topics. Up to 2009, the seminar was held every two years, often with the assistance of Geoffrey Belle, the Government’s international financial adviser The first one was entitled The Outlook for the World Economy: The Caribbean and Forces Shaping the International Capital Markets . From 2011 this event was replaced by an annual seminar, the highlight of which was a luncheon address on a topic of critical importance. The inaugural luncheon speaker for the new series was Bruce Zagaris (an adviser to Government on regulatory issues) whose topic was Improving our AML Framework .
