However, for various reasons, neither of these projects ever started. The demise of the Association During the mid-1980s, interest in the Staff Association declined drastically. Several of its members felt that the Association had outlived its usefulness as a negotiating body and ceased to participate in its activities. The immediate catalyst for this dissatisfaction was the 1983/84 salary negotiations which reached an impasse when management rejected the Association's proposals. After two failed attempts, when the annual general meeting was finally held on September 21, 1983, there were no candidates for the position of president and the meeting ended in disarray. The break-up of the Staff Association heralded the end of an interesting experiment in management-employee relations at the Bank.
