Both Sides of The Coin: The Story of The Central Bank of Barbados 1972-2017
Chapter 5: Some Notable Developments Small Island Economies: Structure and Performance in the English-Speaking Caribbean since 1970 , appeared in 1987. The 1990s were to all intents and purposes the “golden age” of published work for the Bank. The publications efforts showed a more even distribution between domestic, regional and international outlets. Virtually every issue of the Economic Review contained an article and penetration of regional publications remained strong. However, the most significant achievement was the large number of articles published in journals and books as well as the number of books authored by staff-members. In 1996, both DeLisle Worrell and Marion Williams published books; during this period, Worrell also co-edited several collections. Some 30 per cent of the published articles during the 1990s were in journals and another 18 per cent in other edited work. Between 2000 and 2010, international journals absorbed the largest share (41%) of the publications; indeed, in the latter year all of the publications were in journals. Articles published in edited books declined significantly, reflecting the decade-long absence of DeLisle Worrell, who had dominated this area. While interest in writing for the Economic Review waned there was no lack of enthusiasm for contributing to the two Anniversary publications (in 2003 and 2007). The desire to secure international publication remained strong during the remainder of the period under review; roughly 70% of the articles published between 2011 and 2016 were in international journals. Apart from purely economic articles the Bank published booklets and pamphlets which provided information on its operations. One of the earliest, A Guide to Exchange Control in Barbados , was issued in 1976. Other 215 Left to right: Mahalia Jackman, Dr. Kevin Greenidge,Dr. Winston Moore and Dr. Daniel Boamah.
