Taking into consideration the competition, the number of articles appearing in non-regional journals is an indication of the increasing quality of the work from the Bank’s staff. Prior to 1980, articles by the Bank's economists had appeared in only one non-regional journal - The American Economist , in 1978. However, starting in the early 1980s, new journals were penetrated virtually every year, peaking in 1997, with the publication of articles in the International Economic Journal, Savings and Development, Tourism Analysis and International Advances in Economic Research . Between 2000 and 2016 articles continued to be accepted by new journals, at an average of about three per year, indicating the diverse topics that attracted the interest of the economists. All told, between 1973 and 2016, the Bank’s staff published more than 350 articles and authored, edited or co-edited 13 books. Roughly 40 per cent of the output appeared in international journals or books, with about 38 per cent featured in Central Bank publications, (essentially the Economic Review and the Anniversary collections) and 22 per cent in
