220 assessment of the CSME and the FTAA. Financial Liberalisation and Capital Market Development was the theme of the 35th Anniversary volume which came out in 2007. This choice reflected to a large extent the trends within the Caribbean Single Market and Economy towards a unified and more efficient capital market. Early in 2015 the Bank, in association with the UWI and the CCMF, launched Fiscal Sustainability and Debt in Small Open Economies: An application to the Caribbean , a book on public debt in the Caribbean, that provided an alternative measure of debt and fiscal sustainability. A number of books have been privately authored or co-authored by Bank staff. Dr. Worrell’s book, Small Island Economies:Structure and Performance in the English-Speaking Caribbean since 1970 ,was published in 1987. His joint effort with Te’o Fairburn , South Pacific and Caribbean Island Economies: A Comparative Study , appeared in 1996. Dr. Williams’ first book, Liberalising a Regulated Banking System: The Caribbean Case , also came out in 1996. In 2001, by then holding the office of governor, she authored Managing Public Finances in a Small Developing Economy. Information resources The Library The economic research programme was significantly enhanced during 1974 with the appointment of a trained librarian, Maxine Williams. The new librarian clearly understood the need for a variety of source documents and by the end of 1975, the library already had 532 books, 333 periodicals and 2,000 other documents, along with microfilm and microfiche equipment. As a result of an aggressive acquisition policy, strongly supported by management, five years later the stock included 5,811 books, pamphlets and journal titles and over 33,000 other documents; its membership in the Library Association of Barbados also gave the Bank access to additional data sources.
