252 Calvin Springer, Desirée Springer (later Cherebin), Darwin Worrell and Juanita Simmons attended the Systems Analysis and Logical Design Computer course conducted by International Computers Limited at the Bank. 1982 Governor Blackman’s first book, “The Practice of Persuasion”, was launched in November. It featured a foreword by Sir Hugh Springer. Governor Blackman delivered the keynote address to the graduating class at Hofstra University, New York and received an honorary doctorate. A review of the Bank’s 10th Anniversary book, The Economy of Barbados: 1946 to 1980 by UWI Economist Andrew Downes, was published in the July 1982 issue of Bank Notes . From October 14 to 17, Governor Blackman accompanied Prime Minister Adams on a trip to London to sign a US$30 million loan agreement with Orion Royal Bank. 1983 Some members of staff from the Research and Credit Insurance and Export Guarantees Departments visited various industrial establishments. In August, the Bank and the IMF’s Institute co-sponsored a seminar on a number of economic and financial issues. A sports team from the Bank visited the Bank of Guyana over the Easter weekend. This was followed at Whitsuntide by a visit by a Bank of Jamaica cricket team.
