262 Sir Courtney Blackman published The Practice of Economic Management: A Caribbean Perspective . The book, which contained 22 essays in five sections, advised regional governments to do more to promote a culture of management. During November the annual Monetary Studies Conference of the CCMS was held at the Accra Beach Hotel. During the opening address by Senator Clyde Mascoll, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, there was a widespread power outage when a monkey was trapped in some high tension cables. 2007 The inaugural spelling bee of the Sports and Cultural Club was held. It attracted 55 participants, aged seven to 11, from 15 primary schools. Sir Courtney Blackman received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the UWI, Cave Hill, at its graduation ceremony on October 27. Research Officer Natalia Morgan, Kamilah Codrington (daughter of Harold Codrington) and Jeanmarie Cayemitte, an intern from Haiti, escaped serious injury when a coach, in which they were travelling, lost its brakes and crashed at Joe's River killing six persons on July 29. The Bank honoured cricket icons, Sir Garry Sobers, Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Frank Worrell and Sir Clyde Walcott with an issue of coins. The coins were available in 22-karat gold and sterling silver. 2008 The UWI, Cave Hill, presented the Bank with a plaque for sponsoring the Courtney Blackman Chair in Money and Finance and two conferences in 2003 and 2006.
