Ins & Outs of Barbados 2020

INS& 162  ISLAND ADVENTURES aday at thebeach With sand in subtle shades of white or pink, the beaches here are all public. Each has its own character and favourite pursuits... surfers, sunbathers, families, couples, solitude seekers, hotties, beach boys, lively locals and vacationing pensioners—all find a place and a pace to enjoy. Sandy Beach Bottom Bay Perfect Pair for Picnics Bottom Bay , on the south east coast, is a stunning, often deserted beach (quietest on week days). Park on the clifftop and go down the steps. Beach chairs rentals and drinks are sometimes sold. Foul Bay , just south of Crane Beach, is a long, wide tree-lined beach with shady areas suitable for picnics. The best swimming is at the eastern end of the beach. Watch out for undercurrents at both beaches - no lifeguards on duty. Stop by Cutters of Barbados, just past The Crane Resort, and collect your picnic fare and some of their famous rum punch! Foul Bay Family Friendly On the south coast, Sandy Beach is a lovely wide beach with very calm, shallow water – ideal for families with young children. Beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling gear and towels are available from ‘Spock’. Food and drinks can be purchased at the laid back Carib Beach Bar. The popular Miami Beach (also known as Enterprise Beach) has a shallow, calm side, perfect for small children, while the other side has small to medium waves for the action seekers. Plenty of shade. Picnic tables, parking, chairs and umbrellas, refreshments and public facilities. Boardwalk Bliss There are some lovely, calm, shallow swimming areas along the Richard Haynes Boardwalk on the south coast, perfect for cooling off after a jog. A number of inviting little bars and restaurants pop up along the boardwalk: Blakey’s, Tapas, Naru and Salt Café are all good choices. New & Ultra Chic The popular Mullins Beach is now home to the classy Sea Shed restaurant, offering a laissez-faire seaside vibe—sophisticated, yet easy-going, and très barefoot chic. A selection of fine wines and Champagnes harmoniously complements the elegant, light and colourful dishes, flavoured with local inspiration by Chef Jeremy Dupire.
