Ins & Outs of Barbados 2020

202  SECTION INS& CORALL Reef Restoration Alliance The Coral Reef Restoration Alliance (CORALL) works to restore and maintain healthy reefs in Barbados. Their projects focus on physical restoration and on addressing underlying causes of deterioration. They engage community members in the “Ridge to Reef (R2R)” approach, which emphasises how what we do on land can affect the sea. CORALL’s activities include out-planting and monitoring coral fragments at three sites along Barbados’ west coast. These fragments will eventually be used to restore Barbadian reefs. So far, after 15 months of out-planting, these fragments of brain coral and elkhorn coral have demonstrated good survivorship and growth. Facebook: @CORALL Barbados Dare to Care Beach Cleanups Dare to Care is a grassroots volunteer organization that runs weekly cleanups to eliminate trash from Barbados’ coastlines. They focus primarily on remote beaches, that, despite having little human traffic, are the areas with the most debris buildup. Since forming in February 2019, they have organized over 30 clean up events, and have partnered with over 20 different groups to help remove thousands of pounds of garbage from our coastlines. Facebook: @DareToCareBB Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) in Barbados The Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) has existed for over 25 years in 20+ Caribbean territories.
