Lower Carbon Footprint for Union Island In 2019, Vinlec began producing their daytime supply of electricity from solar photovoltaic panels. The project was funded to the tune of EC$8 million by the United Arab Emirates. It saves valuable foreign exchange and dramatically reduces the carbon emissions of the island. Water, Water, Everywhere Union Island’s water supply is derived entirely from rain water caught on roof tops and stored in tanks. Water is always in short supply in these islands but rainfall was very low in2019 leading toamoreseverewater shortage in 2020. Visitors are asked to be very conservative with water use. As they say, save water ... drink rum! SGAK is privately funded by the founders and accepts donations from caring animal lovers. SGAK has a shelter facility on Union Island which provides year round care and holds several clinics a year with visiting vets. In addition to the care of animals they are also educating, the youth especially, about animal care. Manager Suzie Alexander (884) 458-8287. 144 UNION ISLAND INS& UTS
