97 UNION ISLAND Chatham Dry Forest Reserve Union Island has some large tracts of dry tropical forest that have been relatively undisturbed, resulting in endemic species of reptiles, interesting birdlife and a variety of endemic flora. Interesting reptiles include the Pink Rhino Iguana, Union Island Gecko, White Snake and Congo Snake, neither of which are poisonous. The birdlife is plentiful, with the chachalaca birds or wild pheasants from South America being of particular interest. Full Moon Party The JT Pro Center Full Moon Beach Party is a well talked about party in St. Vincent & the Grenadines because of the “Moon- Light Kitesurfing Show”. The party features all music genres, which brings tourists and locals of all ages together for a unique party experience once a month. Around 6:30pm, people start gathering as the barbecue food stalls fire up and the bar starts serving a wide selection of drinks. Bird Watching Ashton Lagoon has two watch towers and a viewing deck, where visitors can observe a wide variety of resident and migratory shore birds, sea birds and land birds. Get a copy of the book Birds of the Transboundary Grenadines by Juliana Coffey and Alison Ollivierre for the Grenadine archipelago. It is sold at the Mare Blu boutique at Bougainvilla in Clifton. Their book will not only tell you what to look out for but give insights into a rich cultural association with birds throughout the archipelago, such as unique local bird names and superstitions. Ashton Lagoon Beautiful Ashton Lagoon is a designated Marine Conservation Area with an Interpretive Centre. For a closer view of the lagoon, you can go on a tour with trained birders or amble peacefully along a trail where interpretive signs provide in-depth information about the area’s interesting history and ecology. International professional kitesurfer Jeremie Tronet gives an amazing night kitesurfing show with fire on the water only a few feet away from the spectators dancing on the beach.
