Ins & Outs of SVG 2020
ST. VINCENT SHOPPING & SERVICES 49 INS OUT Farm Fresh Goodness in a Box St. Vincent, with its lush, mountainous landscape and volcanic rich soil, is the breadbasket of the country, and now, some of the local farms are offering a delivery service from farm to ferry, to fridge! This is how food should be, fresh, local and in the case of Lucky Valley Farm in Georgetown, it’s 100% organic as well! Depending on what’s in season, Renate and Robert Balcombe contact customers by email with the produce list – orders must be placed by Tuesday each week and delivery is on Thursdays. The orders are packaged and delivered to Kingstown for collection by clients on the mainland, or to the ferries for delivery to the docks in Bequia, Mustique and Union Island, where customers then collect their orders. It’s like having the Farmers Market delivered to you, in a box! The Balcombes don’t only offer vegetables and fruit either, you can also get fresh goat’s milk, local honey, unprocessed coconut oil, grass fed beef, pork, mutton, goat, and even fresh cut flowers! If you wish to be added to their mailing list or have any questions, contact them at (784) 458-6227, WhatsApp (784) 454-8512 or via email: renaterobert@gmail.com A wide variety of organic fruit and vegetables are available by subscription from Chatoyer Gardens Permaculture Farm every Friday through a Community Supported Agriculture Initiative. Fruit and vegetable boxes containing a variety of what’s in season on the farm. All orders must be pre-paid. Tel (784) 531-6659 or (784) 528-0006 chatoyergardens@icloud.com A Vincy Experience If you are looking for farm fresh produce, the Market Square in Kingstown is a good place to start, and Saturday mornings are busiest. Brimming with life and authenticity, the market doesn’t merely provide you with fresh produce, but with a real Vincy experience – every purchase is a transaction with a person, and each person has a comment or story to share, if you have the time. And if you’re not sure how to prepare and cook something like breadfruit, just ask! Chances are you’ll get several recipes from the vendors. Stocking up the Vincy Way
